BEHIND THE LENS: FERDINANDO SCIANNA

Fifth round of the Lu.C.C.A. - Lucca Center of Contemporary Art with the exhibition video "Behind the lens." From 4 to 10 January 2013, the headlights focus on Ferdinando Scianna (Bagheria 1943) one of the most famous protagonists of Italian photography. The Sicilian author tells us about his career backwards, from the return to Sicily where he photographed his muse, model Marpessa, and where in 2009 collaborated with director Giuseppe Tornatore's Baaria Bagheria published the photographic book from the movie of the same name.

The documentary is a journey through the most important stages of his biography from the author's encounter with Henri Cartier-Bresson, who will enter him - the first Italian - in the prestigious Magnum agency in 1982, and portraits and friendships with literary authors as Leonardo Sciascia, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, Jorge Luis Borges. And then the prestigious collaborations with magazines such as The European and the French with Le Monde Diplomatique and La Quinzaine Littéraire, to work in the fashion and advertising, which since the 80s led him to be one of the most requested photographers (universally known advertising its contribution to the image of the fashion house Dolce & Gabbana Sicily). On all his Sicily, depicted with intense participation in all its aspects, religious, social, folk over a half century.

"Behind the lens" is a series of eight documentaries, curated by Alessandro Romanini and Maurizio Vanni, who take turns every Friday until February 3, 2013 and starring the greatest interpreters of contemporary photography: Gabriele Basilico, Gianni Gardin , Franco Fontana, Mimmo Jodice, Ferdinando Scianna, Piergiorgio Branzi, Maurizio Galimberti, Annie Leibovitz.
