Lucca represents Italy in an ambitious European project
On November 25, the first edition of the traveling exhibition dell'EPEA-European Photo Exhibition Award for the first time open to the public all the rooms of Palazzo della Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca for the works of European talent involved in an international project sponsored by the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca (Italy), the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (Portugal), from Institusjonen Fritt Ord (Norway) and Körber-Stiftung (Germany).
The theme of "EPEA 01" is the "European Identity", and refers both to the current issues of cohesion and unity as aspects of cultural diversity which characterize Europe, providing an opportunity for photographers to focus so much on instances character of the individual and the social, political, cultural, national and supranational levels.
There are 12 stars of the show, three for each country, all young photographers who live and work (mostly) in Europe, chosen by the curators appointed by each Foundation.
The exhibition
The photo projects selected, extremely different, are presented in the catalog and at the same time in a traveling exhibition that is hosted in the main exhibition and during the most important festivals in Europe, such as Paris Photo, giving photographers the emerging ' opportunity to perform in prestigious venues. The first exhibition was held in Hamburg in May at the House of Photography / Deichtorhallen, the second is still in progress in Paris at the headquarters of the Foundation Calouste Goulbenkian, then it will be the turn of Lucca (from November 25 to January 6 2013) and finally to Oslo which will feature in the next spring, at the Nobel Peace Center.
The exhibition will open on Sunday, November 25th at 11.00 am with opening to the public from 15.30 to 17.30 and the meeting with the three Italian photographer Pietro Masturzo, Gabriele Croppi and Davide Monteleone.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibition will be an opportunity to usher the whole building of the Foundation which opens to the public the other two floors dedicated to exhibitions.
